FOOTBALL CLUB.

According to announcement, the meeting convened with the object of forming a Football Club was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last. There was a large attendance of young men. His Worship the Mayor (Mr Fraer), who was requested to preside, after a few remarks, called upon Mr Hunter (the convener) to explain the object of the meeting. MrHuuter remarked that the only thing against the formation of the Club was the finding of time for practice, as the half-holiday no longer existed, and it was rather late when the shops closed to start play. Several present suggested the desirability of trying to get the half-holiday movement resuscitated, when the Chairman expressed his willingness to close his shop any day in the week. After further discussion, Mr Hunter proposed—" That a football club be formed, to be called the Lawrence Football Club ; and that the subscription be 4s, |all youths uuder sixteen years of age being admitted for 2a 6d." The motion was seconded by Mr E. Rolfe, and carried unanimously. — On the motion of Mr Richards, Mr Fraer was unanimously elected President of the Club. Mr W. Hunter was also elected Secretary and Treasurer for the ensuing season, on the motion of Mr Potts. The next business was the election of a Committee. Thirteen members were proposed, and, to save time, the Chairman suggested 'that all the names be written down and put in a hat, and the first seven names drawn (it being decided that seven should form the Committee) form the Committee. After the Chairman had drawn the seven names, he read out the following as the successful candidates : — Messrs Newton, Wildey, Richards, Ferguson, E. Rolfe, Roscow, and Roberts. Sixteen of those present gave in their names as members, and the Secretary wa» instructed to secure as many members as possible by next Wednesday, to which date the meeting was adjourned. A vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman for presiding, and the meeting closed.
