BLUE SPUR SCHOOL.

The annual' public examination of the, Blue Spur District School, was held on Friday, the lfoh inst. There was a good attendance of parents and relatives of the children, but owing to the inclemency of the weather, many who live at a distance were unable to be present. In the morning the Rev. Mr. Beaumont and Mr. Squires examined the pupils in Mr. DalZiel'a room, and in the afternoon the same gentlemen and the Rev. Mr. Cameron examined the pupils in Miss Pope's room. The examiners expressed them- , selves as highly pleased^with the discipline • and general efficiency and progress of the school, and complimented both the children and their teachers. The sewing

room was very tastefully decorated with

tbe numerous articles which have been ■ > sewn, crocheted, or knitted, by the girls during the year, and the number and quality of these articles prove the skill and unremitting attention of the mistress (Miss Pope) in that useful branch of female education. At the close of the examination the children were put through . a few exercises on the modulator, and then sang several pieces, after which they guve themselves Tip to the enjoyment of the. liberal supply of cakes, buns, milk, &c, which had been so kindly sent by most of the ladies on the Spur. They were then addressed by the Rev. Mr. Beaumont who said, en passant, that this school would compare favorably with any in Otago that had come under his observation, and even with any of the same

class in England. After the Rev. Mr. ■' Cameron had addressed a few kindly and impressive remarks, Mr. Grieve, on behalf of the School Committee, stated that

they were both satisfied and pleased with the state of the school, and the result of the examination. The thanks of the teachers and committee are due to the ladies who so willingly and profusely supplied the children with cakes, milk, &c, and the gentlemen who subscribed **\to the prize fund.
