TEXTILE MILL.

New Industry on Big Scale in Southland. (Special to the “ Star.”) DUNEDIN, This Day. In view of the opinion expressed in Bradford last week that improvement had taken place in the quality of woolpacks made from New Zealand flax, it is interesting to learn that a strong Anglo-New Zealand Company has been formed to establish a large textile mill in Southland for the manufacture of sacks and woolpacks from the Dominion’s native fibre. It is stated that the mill is to supply Australian and New Zealand markets (combined value of which is £4,000.000 a year). and will be one of the largest works of its kind in the world. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The North Island is not making: many inquiries for Canterbury potatoes, but the local market, especially for Sutton’s Supreme, is fairly firm owing to holders having supplies in store and not offering them on the local market. In other sections of the grain and produce markets there is very little activity. Following are prices quoted to be paid to farmers on trucks at country stations, sacks extra unless otherwise mentioned: Milling Wheat—June delivery: Tuscan 4s 3d, Hunters 4s sd, Pearl and Velvet 4s 7d f.o.b. Recent mails received from New Ouinea by Oil Search, Limited, bring* reports of progress by the two parties of geologists. One group is occupied in exploratory work in parts of the Sepik River Valley never before visited by geologists- The other group is occupied in detailed studies of structures already pointed out. A discovery of importance is the presence of oil at one point, this being the first occurrence ever reported south of the Torricelli Mountains.
