NEW HEADMASTER.

Noted English Cricketer Coining to N.Z. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, This Day. Mr F. W. GilJigan, M.A. (Oxon.) has been appointed headmaster of the \I anganui Collegiate School, to replace Mr J. Allan, who is retiring at the end of the year at his own request. Mr Gilligan, who is forty-two years of age, was educated at Dulwich and Worcester College, Oxford, obtaining an exhibition at Worcester, He was in residence there in 1913 and 1914, but on the outbreak of the war he joined the Essex Regiment, holding the rank of captain and adjutant. After the war he resumed his studies and graduated until honours in English. In 1920 he was appointed a master at Uppingham, and headmaster in 1925. He has been there ever since. At Dulwich he represented the school both at football and cricket, and he w-on his cricket biue at Oxford. Since then he has played for Essex. lie will assume his duties here at the beginning of the first term in 1936. Mr Gilligan is the eldest brother of three famous cricketers.
