Tramway Board Vacancy.
Dear Sir,—I am particularly interested in the vacancy upon the Christchurch Tramway Board caused by the death of that great woman, Mrs McCombs. I have seen several names mentioned, amongst them those of tw'o women, but there has been no mention of the woman who deserves nomination more than anyone, Mrs Teresa Green, colleague of Mrs McCombs. Mrs Green deserves the honour of selection for this vacancy more than any of those mentioned, because she has done more for the people of this city, and works unselfishly and without reward in the interests of all the citizens, whether of her own political colour or not. There is another point in her favour, a point that is worth noting in this noisy world—she is not a talker, but is undoubtedly a worker. That she polled the magnificent total of 20,068 votes in the recent municipal election, a vote that ran very close to that of our popular Mayor, is an indication of the regard in which she is held by the citizens of this city, and I feel sure that if she were chosen for the vacant seat on the Tramway Board the board's decision would meet with the approval of most of the people of Christchurch. —I am, etc., EVA BROWNE.
