SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
South Island Awards Made. The 1935 Fouth Island Sheep Dog: Trials Association's championship meeting was concluded at Springfield on Saturday afternoon, and immediately afterwards the Springfield Club commenced its silver jubilee trials. Those will be followed* by the Glenroy trials, and that club will complete the season's programme . which commenced with the Waitaki jubilee trials on April 8. Taking them on the whole, the 1935 championships were as successful as they could have been under the circumstances. Weather conditions could not havs been much worse on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the result was that good work by the dogs was not possible. In fact, it was not up to club standard? on occasions. As conditions improved, however, there was more consistent running noticeable. It was announced that Mr L. A. Charleston's (Southland) Lance had won the New Zealand Stud Book special prize in the long pull event given to the registered dog scoring most points. The huntaway with slew championship was won bv Mr M. A. Matheson’s (Otago) Vale, with 58 points out of a possible 60. Vale put up one of the best performances seen on any huntaway grounds this season, and. although Stan, owned l by Mr C. H. Smith, of Oamaru, and Mr A. T. Miller’s (Otago) Jock put up the possible points at the first poles, they failed to line up to the standard they had set themselves at the second and third poles. Xnterprovincial Trophy.
