INDEPENDENT SUPPLY.
P ower for Palmerston North. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., This Day. By reaching a unanimous decision to purchase additional power plant at a cost of £21,108, the Palmerston North City Council, at a special meeting, took the first step towards making the area it administers independent of the bulk electricity supply either from the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board or the Public Works Department. This decision follows the failure to negotiate on acceptable terms a renewal of the city’s contract with the board. The intention of the city to be free of penal threats or unsatisfactory agreements by placing it in a position to generate the whole electric requirements for its consumers at no greater cost to them than at present, was expressed. It is understood that the whole of the money required for the installation of the plant will be provided from the electricity account of the council.
