ENGLISH CAPITAL.
Acceptance for Completing Railway to be Urged. gisborne-napier line. (Special to the “Star.” ELLINGTON, This Day. In an effort to secure finality on a proposal to introduce over £2,000,000 worth of English capital for the completion of the Gisborne-Napier railway and to provide for several years’ employment for between 1500 and 2000 men. a deputation from the district will interview the Hon E. A. Ransom, the acting-Prime Minister, and the Hon R. Masters, the acting-Minister of Railways, to-day. The deputation will be headed by Messrs W. D. Lysnar and J. Jackson, chairman of the Gisborne Railway Committee. Pressure has been recently put on the Government to accept the English capitalists’ terms, and Mr Lysnar cabled Mr Forbes on Friday with the approval of the acting-Prime Minister as follows:—“The delay in finalising the Gisborne-Napier railway is causing anxiety. A deputation from the centres affected is interviewing the Government on Tuesday, urging acceptance. I suggest that you cable upon receipt instructions to the Government, avoiding the necessity of the deputation. I consider London’s limitations have been reached and any attempt to alter the terms would be futile, jeopardising an excellent proposal.” The “ Star’s ” correspondent has been informed by Mr Lysnar that no replies having been received from Mr Forbes, the deputation will proceed.
