Deficit of States Will Not Exceed £4,500,000. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 28, 12.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Canberra correspondent of the "Sydney Morning Herald” says: Figures presented to the Loan Council meeting yesterday indicated that the deficits of the States for the current financial year will not be in excess of £4,500,000. The chairman of the Loan Council informed the representatives of the States that the Commonwealth would not be able to repeat the grant of £2,000,000 to the States next year. Some increase in the aggregate deficits of the States next 3 r ear must, therefore, be expected.
