RESERVE BANK NOTES.
Risk of Loss Through Colour Similarity. Per Press Association WELLINGTON, May 27. The similarity in colour of the Reserve Bank £SO and ten shilling notes has been the subject of a letter from the New Zealand Bank Officers’ Guild to the Governor of the Reserve Bank. Mr Leslie Lefeaux. The secretary of the guild, Mr 11. P. Mourant. stated that in January last the guild, through the chairman of the Associated Banks, drew the attention of the Governor of the Reserve Bank t° the grave risk of loss to which bank officials and the public would be subjected through the similarity in colour between the £SO and 10s notes of the Reserve Bank. In the course of his reply, the Governor of , the Reserve Bank stated that he considered the risk of loss was negligible. The guild replied at length, setting out reasons in support of its statement, but to date no reply had been received from the Governor. Complaints regarding the similarity in appearance of the notes mentioned have been made from time to time, and have also appeared in the newspapers. Already numbers of cases have been reported of mistakes having been made in transactions which involved Reserve Bank £SO notes.
