FIGURES ENDORSED.
Number of Unemployed in City. The statement published in the “ Star ” on Saturday that there were nearly 7000 unemployed in the city was endorsed by a careful observer last night, who said that while the official figures showing 5480 in the city were correct, there had to be added another 1500 who were not actually residents of the city, but lived within the metropolitan area. If Sumner, New Brighton and parts of the Waimairi, Heathcote. Halswell and Paparua counties, all within a seven mile radius, were taken into the calculation, the “Star” statement would be found to be correct.
