BIG CHANGES.
New Committees on City Council. CITIZENS IN CONTROL. Committees to carry out the administration of the City Council affairs were appointed at last night's council meeting. Substantial changes were made in the composition of the committees, the Citizens’ Association councillors holding the majority in every case, they now having twelve out of the sixteen seats on the council. Exception was taken by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) to the fact that only one Labour councillor was on the By-laws, Finance and Town Planning Committee, but after the council had adjourned for a quarter of an hour, an agreement was reached that in addition to Councillor J. K. Archer, Councillor J. S. Barnett should be on this committee. The new committees are as follows, the Mayor being ex officio a member of each:— Finance, By-Laws and Town Planning—Councillors E. H. Andrews (chairman), J. K. Archer, J. S. Barnett, J. W. Beanland, W. Hayward, M. E. Lyons, W. S. Mac Gibbon. Traffic—Councillors T. Milliken (chairman), J. W. Beanland, T. H. Butterfield, M. E. Lyons, E. Parlane, A. C. Sandston, F. D. Sargent. Electricity—Councillors M. E. Lyons (chairman), J. K. Archer, J. S. Barnett, C. E. Jones, W. S. Mac Gibbon, T. Milliken, A. C. Sandston. Works—Councillors J. W. Beanland (chairman), E. H. Andrews, T. Andrews, J. S. Barnett, J. Guthrie, G. Jamieson, E. Parlane. Reserves—Councillors T. Andrews (chairman), E. 11. Andrews, T. H. Butterfield, J. Guthrie, G. Jamieson, E. Parlane, F. D. Sargent. Baths—Councillors G. Jamieson (chairman), T. Andrews, T. 11. Butterfield, J. Guthrie, W. Hayward, C. E. Jones, M. E. Lyons. Fire Board—Councillors E. H. Andrews, T. 11. Butterfield and W. S. Mac Gibbon. Papanui Town Hall Committee— Councillors E. 11. Andrews, T. 11. Butterfield, and M. E. Lyons. Progress League—The Mayor and Councillor F. D. Sargent. Councillor Butterfield was offered the chairmanship of the Baths Committee but refused to accept.
