“VIVA, VILLA!”
“Viva, Villa 1 ” which has Wallace Beery’, Stuart Erwin, Leo Carrillo and Fay Wray at the head of its tremendous cast, is having a return season at the Grand Theatre this week. It is the legendary rather than the real Pancho Villa that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have brought to the screen in one of the triumphs of filmdom. Beery has never- been better than in this production. The supporting films include Chapter II of the thrilling serial, “ The Perils of Pauline,” and a Charlie Chase comedy’.
A new hostel at Kokiri completes the chain to Greymouth, and hostels have been arranged during the past year at the top of Holmes Saddle, Puaha, Tumble Down Bay’ and Little Akaloa. As the wooden signs that have been used so far by the association are wearing badly, it has been decided to replace them by’ metal ones, twenty-five having already been made to the design of Mr S. C. Anderson. The report pays a tribute to the work of Mr S. Meares as reservation secretary. The balance-sheet shows a credit of £l6 9s
