Miss Doreen Campbell, Woodlands, Dromore, has left on a holiday to visit friends in Wellington. Mrs T. Green has been re-elected chairman of the Benevolent Committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. Miss M. Lovell-Smith and Miss W. Lovell-Smith, Riccarton. will leave Melbourne to-day by the Ormonde on a visit to England. Airs Kenneth Gresson and her family, and Miss Dora Bruce, Fendalton, have returned from a visit to WaiMiss Celia Reese. Cashmere Hills, returned home at the week-end from a visit to Miss Gladys Acton-Adams, Clarence Reserve. Mrs W. H. Graham. Cambridge Terrace, has returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs C.*D. Edmundson, Napier. Miss Joan Cuningham. Knowles Street, who is spending a holiday in Blenheim, will return home at the end of this week. Miss Esme Matterson, who has been spending the vacation with Miss Joy Holbrough at Woodend, has returned to her home at Belfast. Miss Dorothy Holmes, Ilarewood, who has been the guest of Miss Church, Arthur’s Pass, during the holidays, has returned to Christchurch. Airs E. Boulton. United Service Hotel, and Air and Airs H. Crust, New City Hotel, will leave to-morrow for Auckland, the first stage of their trip to California. They will sail by the Monterey on Friday. Mr and Mrs A. R. Thompson, Alerivale, and their two daughters, the Misses V. and G. Thompson, arrived back in Christchurch this morning, after a short holiday visit to Rarotonga. Mr and Airs F. W. Stevens, Hinau Street, Riccarton, left last evening for Wellington, on the first stage of their trip to the United States. They will sail from Auckland by the Alonterey at the end of the week. Airs Murray Fuller, who has been exhibiting her collection of British contemporary art in Christchurch, will leave to-morrow night for the North. She will show her collection in Nelson and in Palmerston North before leaving for England in July.

Kennedy will be asked to represent Canterbury College at an international conference of teachers to be held at Oxford in August. A recommendation to this effect was adopted at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the council of Canterbury University College. Recent guests at Stonehurst Private Hotel include;—Air W. Revell. chief assistant at the Canterbury Public Library, had been written to congratulating her on her success in passing the examination held by the Library Association, London, the Aluseum and Library Committee reported to yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the council of Canterbury University College. The report added that Aliss Revell was the first assistant in the South Island to secure the certificate awarded under the new syllabus.
