British Sailors’ Society Meeting. At the board meeting of the British Sailors’ Society last evening the superintendent submitted the following report of the work for the past nine weeks, from March 25 to May 26:—Officers and men visiting institute 1236, letters received and posted 116. books and parcels papers distributed 13. «h!p£ visited 18. services held 3, attendance 19. whist drives held 1, attendance 16. hospital visits 9, men visited 25, seamen assisted 7. Acknowledgment was also made for the gift of books, magazines, periodicals ettd playing cards. Relief of Distress. The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. E. Sutton) is calling a public meeting to be hel(| at the Council Chamber on Thursday evening, at 7.30 p m., for the purpose of appointing a committee for the relief of distress in Lyttelton. : j
