(By “GOALIE”) About seventy teams have entered for tlie King’s Birthday tournament. The entries include teams from Lincoln. Lohurn, Rangiora, Ferneide and Springston. Junior B and C grade possibles are beginning their practices, but few matche's have been arranged as yet. Five matches were played in the A grade last Saturday. Next week the Varsity and Training College teams will be back on tbe courts, and there will be fewer byes. Technical A outclassed St Mary's. Their combined work showed up the weakness of their opponents. Score:— Technical A 22, St Mary’s 5. The Technical B-Beckenham encounter was interesting. Beckenham were keen and fast, and the ball seldom stayed long in one place. The Beckenham goalies were right on their game, but Technical’s seemed to have lost their usual accuracy. Score: Beckenham 3-1, Technical B 9. These teams now have equal points. ABC and Digby’s provided an interesting contest. ABC took the first goal with a dash, but Digby’s speedily equalised. ABC’s big fault was wild passing, especially in the goal base. J. Gibson (defence) and (J. Winter (centre) were outstanding for Digby’s. Score: Digby’s 16, ABC 8. Mairehau and Mai Moa played an even match, the score being 6-all at half-time. In the second half Alai Moa drew ahead to win 12-10. Ngaio’s excellent defence and goal combination enabled them to defeat Merivale easily. Score: Ngaio 11, Merivale 1.
