Canterbury Management Committee. SELECTOR APPOINTED. Mr C. Hall. Gre.vmouth, has been appointed sole selector for the South Island in the Rugby Football Deague. This information was conveyed to the Canterbury Rugby League’s Management Committee last evening in a letter from the New Zealand Council. Mr W. ' S. E. Moyle presided at the meeting. The secretary of the Canterbury i Rugby Union (Mr J. O, McGillivray) j wrote stating that the League's applies- ' tion for the use of Lancaster Park on one Saturday in September had been ! declined. | The New Zealand Council wrote in answer to the League's communication stating that the council was not in a position to give a definite answer to the proposal tha l a test match with the New South Wales team be played this year. It was not yet known when (he tour would he made, and until arrangements in that regard were completed it was considered injudicious to make a promise. Christchurch had been included in the itinerary submitted to the Australian Board for approval. In any case one Saturday was all that could be depended on. “We note that you have made application for Lancaster Park for a date in September," stated the letter. “ Newspaper reports infer that the authorities are adamant in their refusal to allow the Canterbury League the privilege of playing on the ground. However, it is noted that your League is not allowing the matter to rest where it Is. and intends taking further steps to obtain what, in our opinion, is your undoubted right. We would be glad to be kept advised of the position, and are willing to extend any assistance to an endeavour that has for its object the making available for the use of all sporting organisations what is to all intents and purposes a public sports area. Tha Hew South Wales Tour. Mr Moyle said that he had noted in Australian papers that though there was a doubt about the possibility of the New South Wales team touring New Zealand it was certain that, at least, a Sydney club team would make a to-ur of New Zealand. Jt was decided to make application for a match with the club team, if a State team was not coming. It was decided to write to the Referees’ Association urging that the referees should use their authority to see that all games started on time, and also that the interval was not prolonged. The Junior Advisory Committee reported that twenty-four new registrations had been received. Saturday’s Matches. Matches for Saturday were approved as follows: Seniot grade—Addington v.
