HOARDINGS AGAIN.
Two Applications Before City Council. Hoardings, an old topic of debate, formed the subject of the initial discussion.. at the first business meeting of the new City Council held last evening. Applications for the extension of an existing hoarding and the erection of a new hoarding came before the meeting, and on a division the permission sought was granted. The voting, on non-party lines, was nine to seven The first mention of hoardings was made when a letter was read from the Christchurch Beautifying Association protesting against any further hoardings bjing erected in the city and asking the council to consider adopting 3 policy for the gradual elimination of all hoardings. Councillor Andrews said that the only proposals were to put on extensions to the hoarding in Worcester Street and to build a small hoarding near other hoardings in Oxford Terrace. If the council decided to try to eliminate hoardings, the new hoardings would go =vith the others, but before that conclusion could be reached, a great deal of preliminary work would be needed.
