SENSATIONAL STORY.
Western Australia’s Plan to Secede. “LAWS LfKELY TO BE DEFIED." United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 28, 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 27. The ‘‘Daily Herald” makes the statement of Mr Watson, a member of the West Australian secessionist delegation, a sensational front page story with three-decker, four-column headlines, one of which reads, “ Laws Likely to be Defied.” The “ Daily Herald ” expands the story, requoting earlier proposed forms of direct action, including refusal to pay moneys due to the Commonwealth, disregard for the authority of Commonwealth officials, refusal to pav any attention to the Commonwealth tariff and the landing of goods at Perth and Fremantle under the protection of some kind of volunteer force to prevent the levying of duty or official interference. The “ Daily Herald ” mentions that the Commonwealth is not authorised to send an armed force into the territory of any State without the State’s consent.
