TWO YEARS’ DETENTION.
Reports on Prisoner Not Satisfactory. Leslie Brockenshire, charged with unlawful carnal knowledge, was ordered to be detained for reformative purposes for a period of two years by Air Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court to-day. On behalf of Brockenshire, Air Twyneham said that his client, who was 22 years of age, had previous convictions for which he had been placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Department’s officers, but for four years he had been leading a respectable life, working as a teamster. He had been drunk for three days when the offence was committed, and counsel submitted that the drink was the main cause. “ As far as T can see the offence was deliberate,” said the judge. “ The reports I have are not satisfactory. It is quite time he went to gaol so that he will have a chance to reform.”
