Brighton Candidates in Action. GRACE M'ELWYN’S TRIAL. The track at Addington was in good order for fast work this morning, but all the horses travelled two sulky widths from the inside race. A large number of candidates were sent against the watch. The most interesting performance was recorded by Grace M’Elwyn, whose assignment was a mile and a half. She was accompanied by Finnebrogue. Full Hand, Racketeer, Chechahco and Dundee. Finnebrogue and Full Hand began four seconds in front of Chechahco, Grace M’Elwyn and Racketeer. Finnebrogue made the pace for four furlongs with the others racing in close order? At that stage of the trial, Grace M’Elwyn took the lead with Chechahco alongside of her, the others being tucked in behind them. There was no change until the straight was reached, where Dundee, who had joined the party at the mile and a quarter post, ran up- to the leaders. Over the last furlong Chechahco, Grace M’Elwyn and Dundee raced on terms, and in a good finish Dundee had a slight advantage over Chechahco and Grace M’Elwyn, Racketeer and Finnebrogue finished four lengths away, with Full Hand a length further back Grace M’Elwyn and Chechahco completed the journey in 3min 23sec. Racketeer took 3min 24 4-ssec. The first four furlongs occupied lmin 14s£b, mile, 2min 21sec: mile and a quarter, 2min 52sec; and the full distance 3min 23sec. Ag-ile IB Well. Affile paced two miles in 4min 35 1-5 sec, taking 2min 22sec to cover his first mile. He is very well. General Sarsfield was sent a mile and a quarter in 2min 52sec. Levity’s ta.sk Was a mile and a half in 3min 35sec. Gay Sister paced a mile and threequarters in 4min 12 2-ssec. Blue Blood trotted a mile and a half in 3min 40 2-ssec. Iraq, in saddle, did 2min 16 3-ssec for one mile. Bracken had no difficulty in covering two miles in 4min 40sec. She took 2min 23sec to negotiate the first eight furlongs. Tempest bowled along over a mile and a quarter in 2min 48 2-ssec. Golden Square and Bingen Palm left the mile and a half post. High Noon joined them at the end of four furlongs. Golden Square led until the straight was reached, where Bingen Palm closed on her and beat, her in the last stride. Bingen Palm went unhoppled and made a break nearly two furlongs from home. Bingen Palm and Golden Square accounted - for the journey in 3min 28 Margaret Chenault and Tangatu slipped over a mile and a quarter in 2min 51sec. Winning Wave went twelve furlongs in 3min 31sec. Renova had five seconds’ start from Desert Maiden in a bout over a mile and a half. Renova led for six furlongs, where Desert Maiden headed him, and she retained her advantage to the finish. Renova registered 3min 40sec, and Desert Maiden did 3min 32sec. Mystery Yet went two miles in 4min 45sec. Wise Guy dashed over a mile and a half in 3min 26 l-ssec. Black Jester, Rongomai and Carl began in that order in a serviceable effort over a mile and a half. They raced in this order nearly all the way. Black Jester and Carl crossed the line a length in front of Rongomai. The time was 3min 33sec. The first mile was negotiated in, 2min 22sec. Ohinemutu trotted a mile and a half in 3min 40sec. Peter Parrish compassed a similar distance in 3min 32sec. Blandford paced a mile under saddle in 2min 17sec. Golden Direct and Prince de Oro accounted for a mile in 2min 20sec.

Major Lind, Colonel Bogey and Betty Jinks coasted over a mile and a quarter in 2min 59sec.
