Mrs J. 11. Hall, Papanui Road, returned to-day from a visit to Dunedin. Miss E. Corny ns Thomas, Hereford Street, lias returned home from a trip through the North Island. Mrs David N. Eppstein, Gloucester Street, is spending a short holiday with Mrs W. Guildford Todd. Kaikoura. Mrs Charles Bean, St Albans, and Mrs H. A. Bruce left yesterday morning on a holiday visit to Ilanmer Springs. Mrs Gordon Stevens, Monck’s Spur, Redcliffs. has returned home from a visit to Waiau, North Canterbury. Mrs Carl Madsen left Christchurch for Dunedin this morning, where she will remain for ten daj-s. Miss Elisabeth Harris, Durham Street, will leave this week to visit Mrs Keith de Castro, Timaru. Mrs W. Quested, Temnka, returned home to-day after spending several weeks in the North Island: Mrs F. Neville, Invercargill, is a visitor to Christchurch for the BishopFryer wedding. Mrs A. K. Warren, Merivale. returned home to-day from a holiday spent at Leithfield beach. Mr and Mrs IT. T. S. M’Cready, Wanganui, are spending a holiday in Christchurch, and are staying at “ Ryvington,” Cashel Street. Miss Elisabeth Holderness, Fendalton, w r ill return home this week from a visit to Mrs P. T. Shand. Port Ligar, Pelorus Sound. Mrs Frank Paape, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Nat Woods, Fendalton, has returned to Dunedin. Miss H. Cooke, Mount Pleasant, Redcliffs, who has been visiting her brother, Mr W. Cooke, Yaldhurst, has returned home. Miss Mavis Reese, Merivale, and Miss Gwen Smyth, who have been spending a holidaj- at the Glaciers, have returned home. Members of the English women’s cricket team left Christchurch to-day on their way to the Yv'est Coast and the Franz Josef Glacier. The engagement is announced in London of Diana, only daughter of Colonel O. M. Harris, D. 5.0., and the Hon Mrs Harris, Peterhayes, Pinhoe, Devon, and Lieutenant-Commander John Quicke, only son of the late Mr J. M. Quicke and Mrs Quicke, Ashbrittle, Somerset. During her stay at Government House Miss Harris made many Christchurch friends, to whom the news of her engagement will be of interest.

Brehaut, Timaru, have returned home after visiting Mrs G. Peat, Miner’s Road, Yaldhurst. Mrs L. W. Cooper of Papanui will leave this week for Sydney, where she will join her daughter, Mrs R. L. Inglis, en route for Tasmania. Mrs Frank Scott, Gloucester Street, who has been spending a holiddy in the North Island, returned home today. The Hon Mrs Ralph Vane, England, accompanied by Mrs Norman Hope, “Grampians,” is on a painting tour at Mount Cook. Dr and Mrs Landreth, Cashel Street, who have been spending a holiday in Queen Charlotte Sound, have returned home. Miss Montgomery Moore. Wanganui, who has been staying at Warwick House, is now the guest of Mrs John Montgomery, “ Holmbrook,” Fendalton. Miss Madge Mathews, The Terrace, Wellington, will arrive in Christchurch next week for St Margaret’-s College silver jubilee, and will be the guest of Miss Natalie Danks, Cashel Street West. Members of the Mothers’ Union of the Christchurch Diocese will hold their annual festival to-morrow. There will be a celebration of Holy Communion at the Cathedral at 10.45 and a garden party will be held at Bishopscourt in the afternoon at 2.30. Recent guests at the Mountain House, Arthur's Pa-ss, have included: Dr M. Bevan-Brown (London), Dr Currie (Christchurch), Dr R. Bevan-Brown (Oamaru), Mesdames Robertson. Brown-Philp (Auckland), Bull, Miss Bull (Christchurch). Mr F. L. Kay, of Christchurch, who was at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, has settled in England and is now Classics master on the staff of Stamford School. His marriage to Miss Jean Carter, of Toronto, took place on January 8 at Christ Church, Woburn Square. Mr G. B. Hobbs, of Park Lane, late of Christchurch, New Zealand, was the best man and the wedding breakfast was held at the Bedford Hotel.
