IMAGINARY REVOLVER.
Young Man’s Pretence Aids Police. An ingenius youth, who apparently preferred to remain anonymous, gave the police valuable assistance when they were making an arrest in a shop at Balmain, Sydney, in the early hours of a recent Sunday morning. In response to a telephone message police went to a fruiterers’ shop occupied by Mr M. Jacona and surrounded it. As they were closing in they heard a youthful voice say from somewhere near at hand, “Don’t move; I have you covered.” Apparently the warning was heeded, for a few minutes later the police found a man crouched against a wall who seemed almost glad to see them. When questioned the man said he was a seaman, and that he had only reached Sydney a few days ago on a foreign motor-ship. Subsequently the police were told that a youth had given the alarm, and that when two men were about to leave the shop he stood in the shadows and shouted to them to stop, pretending that he had a revolver. One man, however. had run away. The police were unable to find out their youthful assistant’s name.
