Improvement Shown in Rates Position. The Town Clerk (Mr F. Ilobbs) stated last evening that of the total rates, amounting to £5034 18s Sd, struck by the Lyttelton Borough Council, all but about 3.75 per cent had been collected. The amount collected is slightly better than last year. The rates outstanding from previous years total £192 15s Id. Fair for Building Funds. Y ith a view to organising a fair early in August, the committee of the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat ( lub will hold a meeting in the Council Chamber on Tuesday. The committee requests the attendance of women supporters and of those willing to assist the club. Swimming Sports Postponed. Owing to the large number of visitors to Corsair Bay from the Fendalton and St Mark s Schools, and the change in the weather, the Lyttelton District High Schools swimming sports, which were to have been held in the Corsair Bay baths yesterday, were postponed They will be held on Monday afternoon. Labour Party’s Meeting. A meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the Labour Party will be held in the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s rooms to-morrow evening, at 7.30 School Picnics. Over 400 children from the Fendalton School held their annual picnic at Corsair Bay yesterday. The weather was fine, though cooler than previously. The water, however, was fairly warm. During the afternoon, launch excursions were run round the harbour. About seventy pupils of St Mark’s School, Opawa, also held their picnic at Corsair Bay.
