BY THE SEA.
(Original.) As I was wand’ring by the sea. All happy thoughts occurred to me; The gentle waves lapped on the beach, And seagulls soared far out of reach. The yellow sands lay down below. Like some big patch of golden snow, , The great chalk cliffs towered high above— Ah! ’Tis the little cove I love. The sea was green as green to me, The sky was blue far out at sea ; White clouds floated high as high, Yes, ’twill be night time bye and bye. There’s yet another day to roam Close by the sea all wreathed in foam, And then good-bye, good-bye for To that dear little cove inside the bay. Shirley Wright (Papanui).
