GREAT CELEBRATION.

Preparations for the King’s Jubilee. (Received February 15. 2.30 p.m.) RUGBY. February 14. An impressive ceremonial will be observed when, on May 9. the King and Queen visit Westminster Hall and receive loyal addresses and -congratulations from both Houses of Parliament on the celebration of their Silver Jubilee Members and officials of both Houses, his Majesty’s Judges, and Members of the British Parliaments overseas, who then will be visiting London, will be present to a total number of about 2000. The King’s speech in replv to the addresses will be read bv the Lord Chancellor for the House of Lords, and the Speaker for the House of Commons, and will be broadcast. A complete gramophone recofd of the proceedings will be made. There will be no decorations in Westminster Hall, but the beautiful roof of the chamber, which, despite its great and is in a splendid state of preservation, will be floodlit. - t Artist Completes Painting for Australia. (Received February 15, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, February 14. Mr John Berrie has completed a full-sized Jubilee portrait of his Majesty, which was commissioned by the Australian Government. The portrait is to be shipped to Australia shortly. The King is in khaki with the British Lion in the background. Mr Berrie described the King as a perfect sitter. Mr Berrie once protested that the cinemas screened old, poor quality pictures of his Majesty, which were * national disgrace. He suggests the use of a new portrait annually.
