Workman Drops Fifty Feet Into River. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON 1 N., February 14. Horace Greer, a workman engaged in the construction of a new bridge over the Manawatu River, narrowly escaped grave injury this morning, when he overbalanced and fell fifty feet from the t,op of an arch spati into the riverbed. Luckily he dropped intd the deepest part of the river, where the depth of water is about eight feet. Coming to the surface he began to swim, though dazed. He was pulled out by his workmates and received attention by a doctor, several stitches being required for a deep cut on the top of his head. He was able to proceed home.
