AT MONICA PARK.
Dirt Track Thrills and Fireworks. To the thrills of broadsiding will be added the spectacular appeal of pyrotechnics at Monica Park Speedway to-morrow night. The fireworks display has been arranged as a special attraction in response to numerous requests received through the suggestions box instituted by the new management. For this occasion the Wainoni Company, which put on the big display during the Duke’s visit, is preparing a new spectacular set piece which has been called “ The Magic Fountain.” It is heralded as one of the biggest Wainoni creations to date, and is described as a glowing shape of changing colours, golden jets, magnesium lights and vivid flashing sparks. The display will include many other fireworks spectacles. There will be no curtailment of the speedway programme, which, in addition to handicap, scratch and match races, will include two special events: an attempt by Ray Taylor to lower the four-lap record of lmin 17 3-ssec established by the Englishman, Squib Burton ; and three races, of three laps, for the Golden Helmet, for which Hobson has challenged the holder, Rhodes. Ken Kirkman, Ray Taylor and Charlie Perabo, all overseas riders, will figure to-morrow night in some eight events: the four experts’ match races and the three heats—and, if they are successful in these, also the final—of the A Grade Handicap. Last Saturday Perabo began spectacularly in a thrilling race against Taylor, who displayed the best form to date at Monica Park. Ken Kirkman. after some brilliant riding, had to give up owing to wrist trouble. If all three riders are at top form tomorrow, previous times will go by the board. Prices are the same as before, and the programme this week carries a souvenir picture of Ken Kirkman.
