U.S. DEFENCE CHAIN. Great Preparations Made in Pacific. LONDON, February 13. The aviation correspondent of the “ Daily Telegraph ” says that the United States, being apprehensive of a combined sea and air menace on the Pacific Coast, is organising a chain of defence zones, including a great naval base at Hawaii. A total of 117 warships and 447 aeroplanes will manoeuvre from May 3 till June 10 in the North Pacific, these being the biggest manoeuvres ever held, engaging 55,000 men.
