FROM ELDERSLIE.

lilad and Night Raid Youngsters. ATTRACTIVE LOTS. To hand is the private catalogue of the yearlings reared at the Elderslie Stud, near Oamaru, which will be included in the lots to be offered at the ninth National Yearling Sale to be held at Trentham on January 23. This catalogue has been excellently prepared and is an attractive production. Included in the photographs is one showing the finish for the Derby at Epsom, in which Iliad finished second, a length behind Blenheim. Iliad and Night Raid are the two stallions represented in this Elderslie catalogue. Iliad is by Swynford, whose son, Blandford, broke all records for a winning sire in England in 1934. Swynford, who won £25,508 in stakes, headed the English winning sires list himself in 1923. Another son of Swynford is Lancegaye, sire of the American champion, Cavalcade. Blandford’s progeny include three winners—Trigo, Blenheitn and Windsor Lad —of the Derby at Epsom, but possibly his greatest son is the unbeaten French champion, Brantome. Iliad stock are racing for the first time this season, and they have made a great start. Homer, in Sydney, has won the A.J.C. December Stakes, Culloden Stakes and December Nursery. Yaringa is a winner in Western Australia, and Penelope and Ilias (twice) are winners in New Zealand. Night Raid, famous for all time as the sire of Phar Lap and Nightmarch, has received fresh laurels this season through the deeds of Nightly, who last season was the New Zealand Derby winner. In Australia this spring. Nightly wori the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, V.R.C. C.B. Fisher Plate, and A.J.C. Randwick Plate. The lots to be offered at Trentham this month comprise five colts and two fillies by Iliad and four colts and two fillies by Night Raid. Iliad Colts. A bay colt by Iliad from the Absurd mare Zany is a half-brother to Tankard, also to Lobengula, sold for 750 gs at the 1934 yearling sales. He belongs to the same family as Carbine and is bred on a similar blood cross to Windsor Lad. Next on the list is a brown colt by Iliad from the Paper Money mare Par Money. He is a half-brother to Tray Bit and belongs to the family which produced Limerick and Ballymena. A chestnut colt by Iliad from the Franklin mare Ebba is a half-brother to Dole. Great names appear in the pedigree of a brown colt by Iliad from Sunkissed by Sunstar from Cannon by Gay Crusader. Last of the Iliad colts is a brown from the Chief Ruler mare Gesture, who was unbeaten in eight starts. He is her first foal. Rapier, Reputation, Bobadil, Elevation, Pavlova and Provocation were all members of this family. Night Raid Colts. As a half-brother to Homer, also to Quarto, the brown colt by Night Raid from the Square Measure mare Quadrilateral will certainly attract great interest, more especially as he is said to be one of the finest yearlings bred at Elderslie. Full of staying blood is the pedigree <jf the bay colt by Night Raid from the Kilbroney mare Kilcalm. He is a half-brother to Hampden and-to Dollar Prince. The bay colt by Night Raid from the Tea Tray mare Dresden China, belongs to the same family as Phar Lap and is a brother to Night Jar and a half-brother to Greek Shepherd. Like Phar Lap, the bay colt by Night Raid from Winkie’s Mission is out of a daughter of Winkie.
