GREAT SCOUT HIKE
New Zealanders March in Rough Country. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 10, 11.15 am.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The greatest Scout hike in the history of Australia ends to-day when 650 scouts from the jamboree, including sixten New Zealanders, in the charge of Rover Gilmour, of Te Awamutu, will arrive at Gilwell Park, Gembrook, the Victorian Scouts’ training centre, in the ranges 46 miles from Melbourne. The boys have hiked across country, through wild forest country, taking four days for the journey. In a message from the camping place last night Rover Gilmour said: “ This has been the best part of a fine jamboree. I would come for this alone. The only thing which spoilt to-day was the fact that we have not seen one snake, though we killed four yesterday.” The New Zealanders admired the bird life of the Victorian bush. Tonight the Scouts will gather for a special ceremony round the camp fire, .when Lord Baden Powell will be present.
