Zetes Win* Easily From Imperial Spear. (Special to the “ Star.”) REEFTON. This Day. The concluding day of the Reefton Jockey Club’s midsummer meeting was held at Reefton racecourse to-day in fine sunny w’eather before a good attendance. The track was fast. Imperial Spear was the first to show out in the County Hack Handicap from Zetes, Nautipol. Rose Val and Arctic Star. Zetes took charge passing the stand from Imperial Spear, Rose Val, Nautipol and Arctic Star. Round the top Zetes led Imperial Spear, Rose Val, Sisterina, Arctic Star and Marmoration. Zetes led into the straight from Imperial Spear, Rose Val and Sisterina. Zetes maintained the lead coming on to win by two lengths from Imperial Spear, with Sisterina two lengths further back. Then came Marmoration and Arctic Star. The winner carried £l4 and Imperial Spear £lB3 10s. Zetes, an aged gelding by Limond —Waterwings, whose dividend ran into double figures, scored his first success for his Reefton owner, B. Winchester. Zetes was purchased as a yearling by V. Riddiford for 2400 guineas which was a record for -New Zealand. After pioving a failure, due to wind trouble, Zetes was sold to the present owner for 50 guineas. This was his second success, he having won previously for a former owner. Favourite Wins. Azevedo showed the way to Animated. Patrole. Wino and Wise Choice in the Second High-weight Handicap. At the back the order was Azevedo, Wino, Animated, Patrole, Wise Choice, Heather Glow and Nightguard. At the top Azevedo and Animated raced clear of the field with Wino, Wise Choice and Heather Glow making a move. Azevedo led into the straight from Wino, Animated, Wise Choice, Heather Glow and Nightguard. Wise Choice drew out, inside the distance, to win hy half a length from Heather Glow, on the outside, with Azevedo half a length back. Ifc n came Animated and Nightguard Ihe winner was the favourite, carrying £162; Heather Glow carried £64 10s and Azevedo £57 10s.
