An Original Party.

On New Year’s Eve over a "hundred guests gathered In the beautiful grounds of Mr and Mrs Chatterton, Withell’s Road, Masham, and participated in an enjoyable evening. The first part of the evening was spent in lawn tennis and other open-air games, and at nine o’clock e. delightful al fresco concert was given on the lawn. The following items were much appreciated by all present: Mr and Mrs Arundel (vocal duets); Miss Wilson (recitation); Miss Jean Marsh (songs); Misses Dorothy and Iris Manhire (exhibition of dancing); Miss Nancy Manhire (songs in character). Supper was served under the trees, and competitions of various sorts were arranged. An extension scheme of coloured electric lights turned the garden into a fairyland. At 11.30 the guests gathered' on the front lawn, when the Rev H. Ryan conducted a watch night service, which fittingly introduced the coming of the New Year. After the service sincere thanks were expressed to Mr, Mrs and Miss Chatterton whose generous hospitality and unstinted preparations had ensured such a successful event, and to other helpers who had willingly assisted in many ways. It was the most unusual of all fhe functions which are being held to prepare for the queen carnival barrow fair, which will be held in the autumn.
