ADDINGTON YARDS.

Store Sheep Sell at Good Price*. FAT LAMBS FAIRLY STEADY. What looked like the breaking of the long drought in Canterbury put some more life into the store sheep market at Addington to-day. and the small yarding. mainly of wethers and iambs of mixed appearance, sold firmly at satisfactory prices. Wethers were in keen demand. Light sorts predominated in the fat lamb entry, and butchers were not large buyers. The yarding changed hands at much the same values as ruled at the sale just before Christmas. Store Sheep. The yarding of store sheep totalled under a dozen pens, and consisted chiefly of wethers and lambs, of mixed appearance. Fair interest was shown in the 3ale, and the whole entry changed hands at what looked to be very satisfactory prices. Wethers were wanted, and the few pens on offer sold readily at very firm prices. Among the sales were:— Wethers—222 four. six and eighttooth half-bred at 16s 3d; 70 at 17s 2d; 181 two-tooth at 13s 6d; 62 at 12s lOd. Lambs—22s mixed sex three-quarter-bred at 15s; 63 at 14s 7d; SO three-quarter-bred wether lambs at 14s Id. Ewes—s 6 two, four and six-tooth at 20s. Fat Lambs. The yarding of fat lambs included a heavy proportion of light sorts showing the effects of the long spell of dry weather. In view of the lightness of the lambs, buyers were cautious and the sale lacked animation except in the case of a few pens of prime stuff for the butchery trade. Butchers were not buying to any great extent, and the bulk of the yarding went to export buyers. The basis of values was about on a par with that ruling at the sale a fortnight ago. The following were the principal sales:— H. Matson and Co. sold:—On account of T. Lynskey (Kaiapoi), 6 at 20s lOd to 24s lOd; G. F. Wright (Fendalton), 10 at 21s 4d to 23s 10d; A. and J. F. The yardintr totalled 2300 head, as against over 4000 at the double market a fortnight aero. Top nrice of 24s lOd was secured for two of sold on beT l . T.ynskey (Kaiapoi). Prime heavy lamlw. to 24s 10d. Ordinary lambs, 19s fid to 21s fid. Light and unfinished lambs, 15s 6d to 19s. Fat Cattle. The entry of fat cattle totalled 475 head. compared with 510 at the “ double ” market on December 19 last. The general duality was well up to the average standard and there was a sprinkling of cattle from outside the province. The continuance of the period of hot. dry weather throughout November and December affected the demand for beef adversely, but the change to cooler temperatures to-day was some slight incentive to buyers. The demand was inclined to be erratic, but the best beef was keenly sought at rates fully up to those ruling at the “ double ” market, atw hich a marked rise in prices was recorded. Fat Sheep. The entry of fat sheep was a fairly full one. though there were a number of vacant pens in the main section. Quality was not impressive, a big proportion of the entry being dry in condition. The sale opened steadily on a basis of the values that obtained a fortnight ago. The following were the earlier sales: N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., sold— Wethers—On account of Canterbury Chicory Works (Spreydon), 10 hoggets at 20s Id; client, 27 at 17s 10d; client, 29 at 16s lOd.
