Railway Refreshments.
Dear Sir, —I wonder how long the railways are going to do without dining cars on the trains. The present system of a snack at the station may appeal to men, but to a woman who is travelling unattended or who has to look after children single-handed it simply means that she has to go without a cup of tea for the whole of the journey. It is a great embarrassment to a woman to have to elbow her way in amongst a lot of men at the refreshment counter, and much more difficult to provide for children during the rush at the station. Even if the department cannot provide a four-course meal in the dining car there ought to be some means of getting a snack in comfort on the train. I am sure all fathers and mothers who contemplate taking children away for a holiday by train during the Christmas season will agree with me.—l am. etc., A WOMAN.
