Akaroa Art Union.
Dear Sir,—You have published the results of the “ Lovely Akaroa ” art union. The prize-winning number is AIOOOI, a letter and five numerals, and the remaining winners consist of four and five figures. How, then, does a person with three numerals have a chance of winning a prize? I have several tickets slightly over four hundred which do not appear to have been in it. An explanation of the draw is desired.—l am, etc., DOUBTFUL.
Mr 11. Gladstone Hill, the organiser of the art union, states that 35,644 tickets were sold, and the butt of every ticket was placed in a large churn, which, after being sealed, was turned round more than a hundred times. The churn was then opened and the Mayoress of Akaroa drew out the prize-winning numbers. Every ticket had an equal chance in the draw, irrespective of the number.—Ed., “ Star.”
