Impresses Mayor of Auckland. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 10. “ T WAS MOST IMPRESSED in Australia **■ by the intense loyalty to the Crown displayed by all classes of people,” said the Mayor of Auckland, Mr G. W. Hutchison. who returned by the Aorangi after spending six weeks in Australia. During his visit he attended some of the principal functions in connection with the Melbourne Centenary celebrations, and he also spent some time in Sydney. The spirit of loyalt)' was evidenced wherever the Duke of Gloucester made a public appearance. Mr Hutchison said that a particularly fine gesture was that of a party of relief workers in Tasmania, who fired a Royal salute of twenty-one shots with blasting powder as the Royal train passed. Mr Hutchison said he also admired the cheerful temperament of the people. He had observed this on Melbourne Cup day, when incessant rain set in after the crowds had reached the course at Flemington, in most cases -unprepared. Thousands of women had new frocks and hats thoroughly drenched, and yet all were smiling anil determined to enjoy themselves. Again at the aerial pageant, where at least 20.000 motor-cars were held uf> for some hours in a traffic jam, the greatest good humour prevailed.
