SWIMMING CARNIVAL.
To-morrow evening-. at the Tepid Baths, enthusiasts will be treated to .a great exhibition of swimming and diving when Reg Clark and Harvey Tickle, of Australia, make their first appearance here. Tickle comes to Christchurch with the reputation of being the finest allround diver yet seen in the South Island. He will be seen in an exhibition of fancy diving with leading Canterbury divers. The meeting of Clark (Australian backstroke champion and Empire Games representative of 1934) with G. Low (New Zealand record holder) and L. .T. Moorhouse (Australasian record holder) in the 100yds backstroke scratch race has aroused considerable interest. It will be Clark’s first appearance In the South island in a scratch backstroke race. The Commonwealth star will meet Walter Jarvis (New Zealand record holder and Otago champion) in the 1 00yds free-style scratch race and in the 50yds free style. The pair have dead-heated over 50yds on two occasions. over 100yds once, and each man has one 100yds race to his credit Therefore the 100yds and 50yds on Wednesday will be the deciding races of the rubber.
