PIGEON FLYING.
Christchurch Club’s Race from Kaikoura. The Christchurch Racing Pigeon Society recently flew off a yearling Derby race from Kaikoura. Twenty birds, representing eleven owners, were liberated by Mr Flower at 8.30 in fine weather with an easterly wind. The winning bird, “ Leading Lady,” owned by L. Johnston, flew the distance of 106 miles 780yds in 2hr 20min, a creditable performance. Following are the velocities:— yds per L. Johnston’s Leading Lady .... 1333 J. Golding's Surprise 1325.5 J. Grenfell’s Hiko 1328.1 J. Hartland’s Satisfaction 1317 B. Evans’s Little Wonder 1309 A. Scott's Red Bov 1297 A. Woolcock’s Lord Bond 1228 S. Wright’s Artiste 1213 L. Warren’s Red Wing ........ 1200 The nominated bird prize was won by J. Hartland. Christchurch Premier Club. The Christchurch Premier Pigeon Club conducted a race from Waiouru on Saturday last. The stationmaster liberated the birds in fine weather, but evidently they soon encountered heavy weather as only five members were successful in getting birds through on the day, and several owners failed to get birds in race time. The winning bird, owned by A. W. Jones, flew the 324 miles 819yds airline in lOhr 14min 48sec. Results:— yds per min. A. W. Jones’s Black Fog 928
