Gatherings Held in Town and Country. MYSTERY DANCE AT HORNBY. Members of the Orange Lodge, Hornby, organised a mystery dance which was held in the Orange Hall, Hornby, on Saturday evening. Their enterprise was attended with great success, a good programme of dances and novelty items having been arranged. Miss Neate's dancing pupils entertained with a clever exhibition of dances, and other items were given by Miss R. Robinson, Miss Betty Irvine and Mr Falconer. Novelty dances proved popular, the prizes being awarded to Mrs Duncan and Mr Legge, Mrs E. Kelburn and partner, and Miss Grace Taylor. A dainty supper was served by members of the Ladies Lodge. _ „ Those present included: Mr and Mis J. Vogel, Mr and Mrs J. W. The organisers were Mr D. b•. Turner and the Social Co n V?- o a atavis T Palmer was M.C., and Miss Ma\ is Holden™ orchestra played the dance music. A lucky spot dance was won by Miss Joan Tindall and Mr A. unris tensen. , _ . Garden Pete. A successful garden *ete was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs K W. Bernstein, Richmond Terrace on Satuidav to augment the f unds °* yPC TU. The fete was opened by the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr E. A. M Leaver), who was accompanied by the Mayoress, Miss T. A. M. Leaver. Kitchen Tea. On Saturday afternoon Mrs V. H. Steel iun.. Riccarton, was hostess at a delightful kitchen tea given in honour of Miss Nance Wallace, who is shortly to be married in Wellington. Those present included: Mesdames Steel (2), Hepworth, Robertson Thomson Watt Roller and Handisides: Misses E. Gill. Nance Wallace, Rona Atmore. Netta Grant, Ivy M'Donald and Mavis Nunn. Knrsing Division’s Social. The New Brighton Nursing Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade held its annual social in the Oasis Hall last evening. when many visitors f ’T > I rn other districts were present. The music for the dancing was provided by Mrs K. Ebert, and Mr R. Campbell was M.C. A clarinet solo was given by Mr Skudder. and a competition was won by Mrs Burtt and Mr Nixon.
