INTERNAL MARKET.
Development of Secondary Industries. LABOUR LEADER'S VIEWS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 10. In an address at Upper Hutt tonight. Mr M. J. Savage said that, in view of the tendency towards restricted markets overseas for primary products, greater attention should be given to the development of the internal market. In many lines New Zealand manufactures would compare favourably with anything in the world. Manufacturers themselves were giving attention to more scientific forms of organisation and, if given the assistance they deserved, the secondary industries would provide remunerative positions for thousands of young people who were leaving school and ■finding it difficult, if not impossible, to find emplovment. If Dominion exports were to be restricted, there appeared to be only one logical alternative, namely, to build up the home market. There was no reason for waiting for a world move before beginning to put our own house in order.
