BEACH PATROLS.
Appointed at North Beach and Brighton.
Two out of three surf clubs which appoint beach patrols during the summer have selected men for the work this seasnn. Mr F. Priest has secured the appointment at New Brighton and Mr F. Foster was appointed patrolman at North Bearh yesterday. Both occupied similar positions last season. No appointment has yet been made at Sumner, hut applivations Close with the secretary of the Sumner Surf (‘lub to-mormw and a Choir-e will probably be made on Sunday. Unless public support is forthcoming it is likely that patrols will not be maintained for as long as in the past, when clubs made special efforts themselves to raise money, sometimes even to the extent of getting into debt. This season patrols will be appointed fora time that will be permitted by the amount available from council grants, which will be approximately a month. After that, if patrols are desired, donations by the public will be necessary.
