SHOPLIFTING CHARGE.
Police Allege Theft of Many Articles. Thefts of clothing from fur coats downwards were alleged by the police against Ellen Marion Mather. 32 years of age. a domestic, who appeared on remand in the Police Court this morning, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., on a shoplifting charge. On the application of Chief-Detective Dunlop a further remand until December 18 was granted, with bail of £IOO and one surety of £IOO. Mr Purchase appeared for the woman, who was charged with stealing on December 4 a pair of bloomers valued at Is 9d and a blazer valued at £1 Is. the property of Millers, Ltd. In asking for the remand, the chiefdetective said that an enormous amount of inquiry was required and he could not even guarantee that he would be ready to go on with the case on December 18. Mr Purchase, in applying for bail, said that for much of the inquiry work the help of the woman would be necessary. • The chief-detective added that the large quantity of clothing concerned ranged from fur coats downwards. Up to the present there had been considerable difficulty in making inquiries. The value of the clothing was considerable and *if what the police suggested was true, the woman had been at it for some considerable time.
