FLYING SOUTH.
M’Gregor and Walker. (Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, December 9. The New Zealand entrants in the Macßobertson Air Race, SquadronLeader M. C. M’Gregor and Mr H. C. Walker, who gained fifth place in their Miles Flawk monoplane, arrived in Timaru yesterday after what is a record for the Christchurch-Timaru trip, the time taken being 36min. The airmen were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr T. W. Satterthwaite, who extended them a civic reception at the airport. Squadron-Leader M’Gregor and Mr Walker later visited Oamaru, where they were tendered a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr M. F. Cooney. In welcoming the aviators to Oamaru Mr Cooney referred to their fine performance in the air race, and on behalf of the town, congratulated them on their achievement in establishing a light ’plane record from England to Australia. Members of the Waitaki Aero Club endorsed the Mayor’s remarks.
