Karl Ernst Tells How Hitler Wept. “MUST GET IN AHEAD.” United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 10, 10.30 a.m.) PARIS, December 9. Further revelations purporting to be written by Karl Ernst appeared in a Saarbrucken newspaper in the form of a letter to Heines, who also perished on June 30. The letter emphasises the fears which those executed entertained regarding their fate. It says that Captain Ernst Roehm, who was a Minister without portfolio in Hitler’s Cabinet, had a night-long discussion regarding the matter with Herr Hitler, who wept
and implored Roehm to believe in him, adding that he would prefer to see him head of the army than “ the gouty old man in the Neudeck old age refuge,” meaning President Paul von Hindenburg. The letter adds that Hitler and Captain Roehm exchanged promises to do nothing pending the death of Hindenburg. The letter continues: “We must get in ahead of Hess, Dr Goebbels and General Goering or we shall be done in. It is a pity that Captain Roehm prevented me from smashing their faces when they attacked me regarding my marriage. As to Goebbels I will roast him on a slow fire. I will not forget how he launched me on the Reichstag business' and then deserted
