REACHES 50,000 FEET.
Wiley Post Climbs Into the Stratosphere. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, December 7. A message from Bartlesville (Oklahoma) states that Mr Wiley Post made a second hop toward the stratosphere in his remodelled monoplane Winnie Mae and landed with the belief that he had set a new altitude record of around the 55,000 ft level. “ I went higher than I did last Monday by 5000 ft to 7000 ft,” Mr Post said after bringing his aeroplane to a perfect landing down the wind with a dead stick.
Examination of his barographs after Monday’s flight indicated that he had reached 50,000 ft.
Mr Post estimated his net air speed at the peak of his flight as from 350 m.p.h. to 375 m.p.h.
