SURF LIFE-SAVING.
South Brighton Club Opens Season. The South New Brighton Surf Bathing and Life Saving (’lub officially opened its season yesterday afternoon. Conditions on the beach were not ideal, the heat of the sun being marred by a strong easterly wind and driving sand. The club president (Mr J. K. WorraJl). in declaring the season open, extended’ a hearty welcome to the lepresHHaCl''V\ a * nia * r * ancl Sunnier Surf .Mr W. H. Benson said he thought the club was extremely fortunate in having such a live wire as Air Worrall for its president. The club . had the material and the most attractive end of the beach. People wanted beaches of that type where they could be free and easy. He wished the club a thoroughly successful season and hoped to see it successful in one of the inter-club events. An exhibition of life-saving work was given, by the club teams under the instructor (Mr r. J. Kite). Mr N. J. Winter (Sumner) a.'ted as marshal for the following events:— Chariot race—A. Sbrimpfon’s team, 1. Reel race-—N. Tfewinson’s team, 1. Flag race—.T. Hurd, 1. Miller Cup. Three teams from the Central Brighton .Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club competed yesterday morning for the Miller Cup, a seven man full-drill event. The tide was on the make and conditions were far from ideal, there being a strong easterly wind and -heavy surf. Following were the officials; Judges, Messrs C. C. Couldwell and A. T. F.
