SYDNEY, December 9. At Newcastle exhibition lawn tennis matches resulted: Singles—C. Boussus (France' defeated R. Dunlop, 6-3, 6-1 ; D. Chrystal defeated J. Brugnon, 4-6, 6-1. 6-3. Doubles—Boussus and Brugnon defeated Chrystal and Dunlop. 6-3, 6-1, 7-5. International Matches. At Brisbane, in the international lawn tennis matches, V. Mtlrath was unable to take further part in the match and was replaced by J. Grinstead. Results:— v Singles—F. Moon (Australia), defeated Maier (Spain), 6-4, 6-4; J. Grlnstead (Australia) lost to Menzel (Czech). 2-6. 2-6; Cummings (Aust.) lost to Kirby (South Africa), 7-5, 1-6, 4-6. Doubles—Moon and Cummings v. Menzel and Maier, 4-6, 4-4 7-5, 7-5, unfinished. At Melbourne the Victorian lawn tennis championships were begun. The principal matches resulted: Singles—Crawford defeated Purcell by default: Bromwich defeated We«ton, 6-4, 6-1. 6-3; Perry defeated M'Kenzie. 6-4, 6-1, 6-2; G. P. Hughes defeated Cleme-nger, 10-8. 7-5. (forfeit); R. Malcolm defeated J. Walton, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7. 6-3. Women’s singles—Miss Dearman defeated Miss Rigby. 6-2. 6-1; Miss Round defeated Miss L. Smith. 6-4, 6-0; Miss Lyle defeated Miss Chittick, 6-0, 6-1. Combined doubles-,—Perry and Miss Round defeated Fitcliett and Miss Maugher. 6-1. 6-1. Great interest was taken in the appearance of the overseas visitors. Miss Round was fully extended by Miss Smith, who. although nervous at first, quickly settled down and made the champion use every care. CJemenger made a strong beginning against Hughes, but Hughes, obtaining his length, took full charge.
