IRISH OUTRAGE.
I.R.A. Assault on Free State Lawyer. DUBLIN, December 8. While on his way home to Killiney from Dublin, Mr P. J. M’Enery, counsel for the prosecution in a number of cases against members of the Irish Republican Army before the military tribunal, was held up on a dark road by two men with revolvers. Two other men appeared and they bundled him into a taxi, which travelled at full speed to Dublin.
His assailants declared that Mr M’Enery’s conduct of the cases was im proper. When he protested that he had only been doing his duty they replied that they were acting on orders. They tied a copy of the cases in which Mr M’Enery is appearing round his body. The taxi pulled up outside the Arbour Hill barracks, where the tribunal sits. The kidnappers bundled Mr M’Enery out, tied his hands and feet to the barracks railings, tarred his head and decamped.
Bystanders released Mr M’Enery, who declares that his assailants were as courteous as was possible in the circumstances. The attack has created a sensation in Dublin.
