There was a large attendance at the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual social and presentation of trophies in Hewitt’s reception rooms on Saturday evening. The president. Mr A. P. Bruce, presided. The toast list was as follows: “ Parliament.” Mr H. C. Barton, response, Mr J. Connolly. M.P.; “Local Bodies.” Colonel J. Findlay,” response, the Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) and chairman of the Ashburton County Council (Mr J. D. Morrow) ; “ Kindred Associations.” Mr G. H. B. Lill. response. Messrs G. Callaghan and J. Blair; “Successful Exhibitors,” Mr J. H. Grigg: “ The Judges.” Mr A. Brown, response, Messrs A. A. M’Donald and J. J. Lewis: “ Ashburton A. and P. Association,” Mr A. P. Raven, response, the president (Mr A. P. Bruce) : “ The Ladies.” Mr D. A. Morgan, response. Mr Hugh Brown, ** The Performers.” Mr W. H. Amos: “The Newspapers.” Mr R. J. Martin. Vocal items were given by Misses Kathleen and Sheila Lambie and Mr and Mrs R. A. Oakley. Mrs Oakley was accompanist.
